Water conservation and installation of RO (reverse osmosis) water treatment Plant


Scheme: Water conservation and installation of RO (reverse osmosis) water treatment Plant at Bral residential company.

Background

There are 11 no. submersible pumps installed by which ground water is pumped to water tank. Drinking water is being supplied from overhead tank to residential quarter. The groundwater is depleting and alternate source is also required to overcome in future.

Philosophy/feasibility:  

There is water pond at colony having the reservoir capacity 60000 KL (approx annexure-I) which is lying idle and currently under no use. The rain water is to be collected in water pond.  Water can be piped in from existing pond and run through a filtering compartment (approx 10 KL/H) that uses sand and gravel to rid the water of foreign debris. The Supply of fully treated and safe water is as per the WHO standard. If implemented, could go a long way in the conservation and utilization of the traditional surface water sources.

Success ref: -

Sulabh International’s water treatment solution converts contaminated pond water into pure drinking water and bottle it. The plant is producing around 10,000 liters of pure drinking water daily. By treating accumulated rainwater into bottled water with the use of technology, pure drinking water is being made available to people at just Rs.10 for a 20-liter pack i.e 50 paise per liter.


Method:

A jet pump shall be installed near pond for the suction of water from the pond and will be fed to water filtration plant. The filtered water shall be injected to existing water network as shown below-


Zero liquid discharge is the most trusted environment friendly water treatment technology that meets stringent requirements of discharge and water reuse.

The treated water is safe for drinking as per WHO standard.

There will be no need to use separate manpower to handle the RO. There are already pump operators who can handle the newly installed RO plant.

A rough calculation (annexure-I) shows that we can use this pond for water supply 5-6 months in our Township.

This project does mean to save money rather it is to set an example among refineries, an honest responsibility towards nature and environment.
